Our company founder, Cliff “grandpa” Gearhart, at a young age began harvesting and selling wild trees during the Great Depression.

Grandpa’s love of trees continued and he was one of the very first to plant Christmas trees in Michigan and was also one of the first to grow fraser fir and douglas fir trees.

Over the years his business grew and developed into a multi-generational company rooted in values and family traditions. North Star now has a nearly 1,000 acres which is used for growing trees and nursery stock.
